Definitionskos:definition | Containment walls are constructed, usually in a series of stages, in a downstream direction. Construction begins with a starter dam which forms the foundation for subsequent levels as the dam is raised. Each new dam level built on and supported by on the outside or ‘downstream’ slope of the previous dam wall. |
