Definitionskos:definition | A positive topographic unit, usually conical, formed by the periodic upwelling of sediments (mud) fluidised by gas and water (Etiope, 2015). It can develop as a single isolated cone (that can be several hundreds of meters high) or, more frequently, as groups of cones. MUD VOLCANOES can be classified by their morphologies, with the key distinction made on the grounds of angle of the flanks. |
