Definitionskos:definition | A type of SEDIMENT DRIFT associated with contourite deposition. CONTOURITE DRIFTS are commonly formed on continental rise to lower slope settings, and produced primarily by thermohaline-induced deepwater bottom currents though may be influenced by wind or tidal forces. The geomorphology of contourite deposits is mainly influenced by the bottom-current velocity, sediment supply, and seafloor topography, and the morphology of the drifts can be variable (Heezen and Hollister, 1964; Rebesco et al., 2014; Stow et al., 2002). |
