Definitionskos:definition | Geological boundary marking the transition between continental and oceanic crust. It is located seaward from the shelf edge to the upper edge of a CONTINENTAL RISE or the point where there is a general reduction in slope. There are two kinds of CONTINENTAL SLOPE, one associated with passive continental margins, the other with active margins (Harff et al., 2016). Cf. "slope" in Harris et al., (2014). |
